General Description: The Director of Music is a part-time salaried position on the lay staff of the church with the overall responsibility for the planning, organization, and execution of music ministry for the church. The Director will lead worship through a diverse range of musical expression, from traditional church hymns to contemporary music representing musical styles from around the globe. The right candidate will be able to seek out and recruit church members and other individuals with musical talents who are willing to share those talents at Park Church to bring glory to God. The Director of Music works directly with the pastors(s), staff, musicians, and volunteers, in a team approach, to provide a high level worship experience.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead dynamic and inspiring music helping persons experience true worship through music and for the ultimate purpose of glorifying God.
Recruit, audition, mentor, and train church members to involve as many congregation members as possible in the music ministry of the church, which may include the Chancel Choir, Praise Band, and Chamber Ensemble, as well as a bell choir, children’s choir, and youth choir.
Grow the music ministry of the church and seek new forms of musical expression.
In consultation with the Pastor, coordinate music for Sunday morning worship services that is relevant to sermon series/church-wide initiatives and special worship services such as Holy Week, Advent, etc., in either a lead or supportive role. Worship coordination might also include work with praise band members, audio/visual staff, and others who are responsible for the planning and leading of worship.
Provide leadership, vocally or instrumentally, for worship.
Provide necessary reporting to various staff and agencies for compliance with music copyright and usage agreements.
Gather inventory and financial information to provide a recommended budget each year.
Attend weekly staff meetings.
Participate in special workshops and continuing education programs related to music in worship, worship planning, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
Anticipated Time Commitments:
The position is part-time with an average weekly expectation of 12-15 hours per week.
Salary Range: $15,000 - $20,000 (annually). Salary negotiable based on experience. Additional payment for weddings/funerals. Continuing education stipend of $400.00 annually.
Supervision: This position is under the direct supervision of the Pastor.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
Ability to lead worship vocally and/or instrumentally
Knowledge of traditional and contemporary music and their use in worship services
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to recruit, train, and inspire volunteers as praise band members, choir members, soloists, and/or instrumentalists
Have a caring attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
Demonstrate a positive attitude to facilitate working cooperatively with all ministries of the church and respective staff and volunteers
Five years of experience in a similar or related position (preferred)
Start Date: August 2021 (flexible)
