PARISH NURSING

Exercise on Vacation - No Excuses

Summer vacation is a great time to get away from our busy daily lives.  It is a time to relax, spend time with our families and renew our souls.  Although you may not be able to keep up your regular exercise routine it is not an excuse to not exercise at all.  Vacation is a great time to try new forms of exercise and a time that the family can exercise together so all stay physically fit.  Below are some forms of exercise that may be done on vacation and are fun also!

  • Walking or running on the beach
  • Jumping waves
  • Swimming
  • Surfing or snorkeling
  • Boogie boarding
  • Beach volleyball
  • Hula hoop
  • Kayaking or canoeing
  • bike Riding
  • Hiking
  • Golf
  • Tennis
  • Zip lining

These activities can burn anywhere from 200 - 800 calories per hour depending on the activity and the weight of the person doing that activity.  Don't forget to also exercise your soul by keeping up with your prayers, Bible reading and attending worship.  Vacation is not an excuse for not doing these activities as well.

Parish Nursing Ministry

Parish Nursing is the ministry of caring for the whole person - mind, body and spirit - to integrate our faith and our health.  In recent years medical research has found that a strong faith andprayer life are central to staying well and to healing when disease comes to us.  Christian churches were the leaders in health care not so many years ago.  The parish nurse does not replace the pastor but works with the pastor to promote healing and bring comfort to those in need.  The parish nurse provides health education, resources and screenings.  Jesus asks us to care for one another and here at Park we have seen that caring increase since the onset of this ministry.
